This week during my personal devotion time at home, I've been reading in the Book of 1 Corinthians.  Today I read Chapter 15, and verses 56-58 jumped out at me.  These verses say:
"The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.  But thanks be to God!  He gives us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.  Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm.  Let nothing move you.  Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain."
Have a SUPER-DUPER weekend!

WE WILL CONTINUE TO FOCUS ON LEARNING OUR MULTIPLICATION FACTS THE REST OF THIS YEAR!  NEXT WEEK WE'LL LEARN OUR SIXES!!!!!

This week at school, I've been thinking a lot about the verse the children are learning.  Sometimes, it's easy to forget that there's a whole spiritual world out there that we can't see with our eyes, but it's even more real than the world we live in.  If we're not careful, we can become so easily distracted by the things going on in our lives and around us that we fail to focus on what's important.  We need to make sure that we "...put on the full armor of God so that [we] can take [our] stand against the devil's schemes..."(Ephesians 6:10).

Have a WONDERFUL weekend!

Jen Corsino

NEWSLETTER - APRIL 21ST

Hi, everyone!!!  We made it to the end of SAT testing!!!  HOORAY!  I am sooooo proud of how hard the children worked!

On top of all of this work, we had lots of fun this week, too!  The children enjoyed toy day, game day, and bubbles/sidewalk chalk day!!!  My favorite day, of course, was today's Easter egg hunt.  I love to see how EXCITED the children in this class get about special things!  Even more than that, though, I love their love of the Lord.  I pray that, on this long Easter weekend, as you're enjoying your baskets, egg hunts, candy, and time with family, you take some time to reflect on the meaning of this special holiday.  Jesus was crucified to pay for all of our sins.  His body was laid in a tomb, and 3 days later he rose from the grave.  Because of this, we have the promise of eternal life.  Talk about a reason to celebrate!!!

Enjoy your Easter with your sweet children!

In Christ's Name,
Jen Corsino

PS Next week's Star Student will be ABBY!!!

NEWSLETTER - APRIL 15TH

Hi, everyone!  Happy Friday!  It was a GREAT week here at NCS in second grade!  The kiddos all looked sooooo cute posing and smiling for their pictures on Tuesday, and they all enjoyed wheel week, too!!!  We also had fun making resurrection biscuits in honor of Easter, graphing jelly beans, and talking about the significance of the Easter lily. We also learned how to make Easter lilies out of construction paper!  They came out beautiful!!!

Here are some of the things we learned this week:
*Reading - We did some SAT review for next week's test, we reviewed the different types of genres, and we did lots of silent reading while practicing our strategies in our new Reading Strategies Notebooks!
*Writing - We reviewed the format of a friendly letter and began writing letters to our classmates.  These will be placed in each child's Memory Book!
*Math - We did a fun activity with graphing and jelly beans, and we did lots of SAT REVIEW!!!!!
*Science - We continued to learn about forces, focusing on magnetism.
*Language Arts - SAT REVIEW!!!!!
*Bible - We continued to talk about Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection.

*REMEMBER, NEXT WEEK IS SAT WEEK!  IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO BE ON TIME FOR SCHOOL EACH DAY AS TESTING WILL BEGIN IMMEDIATELY AFTER ANNOUNCEMENTS!  Once testing has begun, any late arrivals will have to report to the office and wait until the test we are working on is finished before coming to class, and those children will miss that test.  Be sure that your child gets a good night's sleep and eats a good breakfast each day!  After testing, the children will have some time to rest their little brains!  Here's what your child needs to bring to school each day:
  • Monday - Bring a toy from home!  (No electronics or weapons, please.)
  • Tuesday - Bring a board game!
  • Wednesday - Bring bubbles AND sidewalk chalk!
  • Thursday - Bring a dozen plastic eggs filled with candy and/or small toys AND LABELED IN PERMANENT MARKER WITH YOUR CHILD'S NAME.  Our egg hunt will be at 1:30 that day!  PLEASE ALSO HAVE YOUR CHILD BRING IN SOME KIND OF A BASKET OR CONTAINER TO COLLECT THE EGGS IN!!!  THANKS!!!
  • Friday - NO SCHOOL!  GOOD FRIDAY!!!
During my personal devotion time at home, I am continuing to read in the Book of Proverbs.  This week, Chapter 10 verse 12 stood out to me.  It says, "Hatred stirs up dissension, but love covers over all wrongs."  I love that part...love covers over all wrongs.  In this lifetime, people will disappoint us, because people are not perfect.  But we are called to love one another anyway, and love can cover any wrong that we experience.

Have a fantastic, love-filled weekend!

In Christ's Name,
:o) Jen Corsino

PS  Next week's STAR AUTHOR will be KAIYA.

PPS NO HOMEWORK, SPELLING TEST, OR BIBLE VERSE TEST NEXT WEEK DUE TO SAT TESTING!!!!!
