What a wonderful week we had here at NCS in Second Grade!
The Young Scientists started the week discussing weather. We talked about how the change in Earth's climate after the flood was most likely the reason the dinosaurs became extinct. We looked at the fossils we made last week using magnifying glasses (the Young Scholars did this on Tuesday!) and we practiced measuring the temperature of water using thermometers. FUN! WE LOVE SCIENCE! We did some FUN Valentine activities, too, and had TONS OF FUN at our Valentine Party today!
Here are just a few of the other things we did:
- Reading - We reviewed the concepts of sequencing and using transition words while reading our selection Monster Tracks. We spent some time doing Star Reading (AR), too!
- Writing - We learned about different types of poems and wrote poems for our Valentine cards!
- Language Arts - We learned what adverbs are!
- Math - We continued our unit on geometry and practiced addition and subtraction with regrouping. We did a little multiplication, too!
- Science - We talked a little bit more about weather because it rained, so we were able to catch some in our rain gauges! We practiced identifying clouds as cumulus, stratus, and cirrus, too!
- Social Studies - We read about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.
- Bible - We talked about the Books of the Bible and what each one is about, and we practiced finding them! We talked about how God inspired people to write the Bible...He "told" them what to write, and they wrote it down!
Here are a few announcements/reminders:
- There will be NO SCHOOL tomorrow (Friday, February 12th) or Monday, February 15th.
- Be sure to reenroll on InfoDirect if you haven't done so yet! Third grade with Mrs. Berry and Mrs. Cooke will DEFINITELY be a blast!
- Tuesday, March 2nd is Dr. Seuss' Birthday! Your child may come to school that day dressed like a Dr. Seuss character is he/she wants to!
For my personal devotion time this week I've been reading in the Book of Revelation...one of my favorites! I love thinking about the future when Jesus will come to take us all Home with Him! One part that troubled me was Chapter 3 beginning at verse 13. It is a vision of the end times, and the Lord is speaking to a church in Laodicea. It says, "I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm - neither hot nor cold - I am about to spit you out of my mouth." The Lord doesn't want us to be complacent and just skate through life. He wants us to take a stand for what is right. I pray that I am not lukewarm, but that I will live a life ON FIRE for the Lord! Please pray for me that I will always live for Him!
Have a WONDERFUL LONG WEEKEND!
In Christ's Name,
Mrs. Corsino and Mrs. Ludwig
PS Next week's STAR STUDENT for Mrs. Corsino's class will be JOHN.
MRS. LUDWIG'S will be TAYLOR.
SECRET WORD: FORGETFUL :)
