NEWSLETTER - FEBRUARY 5TH

Hi, everyone! HAPPY FEBRUARY!

We started the week with a FUN FEBRUARY song! On Tuesday we celebrated Groundhog Day by making predictions about whether or not Puxatawny Phil would see his shadow, by reading a poem about shadows, and by reading with flashlights in our "holes" (under our desks). FUN! Here are some other things we learned:

  • Reading - We read a selection called "Why Did the Dinosaurs Disappear?" and we discussed how Noah's Flood certainly had something to do with it! We used the reading strategies Making Predictions and Summarizing while reading, and we discussed cause and effect, too! We also reviewed the /er/ sound!

  • Writing - Mrs. Corsino's class practiced writing descriptions and short stories and used LOTS of adjectives! Mrs. Ludwig's class wrote 5 paragraph essays on showing love! Both classes practiced writing poetry, too!

  • Math - We learned lots about geometry, focusing on types of solids, symmetry, and making shapes. We also started learning about multiplication! WOW!

  • Language Arts - We reviewed quotation marks with a FUN activity using conversation hearts! We reviewed linking and helping verbs, too, and we learned about homophones!

  • Bible - We learned about the church and how it's made up of people working together to worship the Lord and help others!

  • Science - We finished up our unit on weather by sharing our Wonderful Weather Projects! They sure did come out GREAT, and the children were so pround of themselves! I was proud of them, too!

  • Social Studies - We started learning about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. President's Day is right around the corner!

Here are some announcements/reminders:

  • There will be NO READING TEST next week! We will have the Bee Test on WEDNESDAY right after the EARLY BIRD TEST because our Valentine Party will be on Thurdsay morning and there is no school on Friday...so be sure to study some over the weekend! :)

  • Our annual car and bike show is coming up on SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 6TH from 10:00 until 2:00. It'll be such a fun time!

  • Be sure to reenroll online ASAP! Just go to the NCS website and click on Infodirect!

  • Our class VALENTINE PARTY will be next THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 11TH. Be sure that your child brings his/her box in before then! Also remember to send your child with valentines for the class that day, too!

  • As noted above, there will be NO SCHOOL next FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 12TH or MONDAY, FEBRUARY 15TH. Friday is a teacher work day, and Monday is President's Day!

During my devotion time at home this week I read the Book of Jude. The part that I keep thinking about is verse 18, which says, "...In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires." I thought about our world and about how there are so many people focused on themselves...on what they want, or on what they have, or on what they want to get. We are so blessed that we live for Jesus and not just for ourselves!

Have a super-duper weekend!

In Christ's Name,

Mrs. Corsino and Mrs. Ludwig

PS EVERYONE HAS HAD A CHANCE TO BE STAR STUDENT! YAY! Everyone in Mrs. Corsino's class will get a second turn! This time, a form will go home asking your child to bring in these items: a recent photo, a baby picture, a favorite toy, a favorite book, a family photo, and a photo of a pet, if you have one! Initially, I was going to make a scrapbook with pictures of the children's time at home with Puz, but it didn't work out. (Some children forgot to bring in pictures of themselves with Puz, and others kept Puz for more than a week...so I just scratched that idea...Sorry!) NEXT WEEK'S STAR STUDENT WILL BE EMILY!
