Mrs. Corsino's class started the week with a WONDERFUL SURPRISE! Jacob Mullholand brought in 2 frogs for us to have as class pets! The children all gave suggestions on what we should name them, and then they voted. The winning names were (...drum roll...) PIXIE and TRIXIE!!! They are so much fun to watch! Thanks so much, Mullholand family!
As always, lots of learning took place this week! We continued our unit on courage and read a Dutch legend called The Hole in the Dike. The children practiced "making tracks" in their reading with sticky notes, focusing on making connections with their own life and making text-to-text connections. Mrs. Corsino's class started reading a chapter book titled Balto, too, and we also began learning about the Iditarod race in Alaska. Here are some other things we learned:
- Writing - The children finished their 5 paragraph essays on their Wacky Worlds. They came out great!
- Math - We continued our unit on measurement and practiced addition, subtraction, and multiplication. We had so much fun figuring out perimeter and area with graham crackers and cheeze its...YUM!
- Language Arts - We reviewed past tense verbs and commas in dialogue.
- Science - We continued learning about the states of matter.
- We learned how to take notes while reading.
- Bible - We learned the story of Mary and Martha and discussed how, even though our lives are busy and filled with activity , we need to make our time with the Lord a priority.
The Book Fair was a huge success! I love watching the children get excited about reading, which always happens when they get to shop for their very own books! Thanks so much to those of you who purchased books for our classroom! I just looooooooove books!!!!!

During my personal devotion time this week I've been reading in the Book of Ezra. In chapter one, it says, "In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, in order to fulfill the word of the Lord spoken by Jeremiah, the Lord moved the heart of Cyrus king of Persia to make a proclamation throughout his realm and to put it in writing." It goes on to talk about the proclamation and how Cyrus was letting God's people go back to Jerusalem to build the Lord's temple.....but that first part really got me thinking about the way that the Lord works. He moves the hearts of people. He gets deep down inside of us and stirs our hearts for His purposes. What a wonderful thing it is when we respond to His moving and play a part in fulfilling His purposes! He doesn't need our help...but He gives us the privilege of taking part in His work. I just love Him...don't you?!?!
Have a GREAT weekend! (I'll see some of you tomorrow! :)
In Christ's Name,
