Hi, everyone! Happy Friday...and Happy Spring! It has been a FANTASTIC week here at NCS! We spent lots and lots of time talking about Easter. We read some wonderful Easter stories, did some beautiful Easter crafts, and finished up our Easter writing pieces. (Mrs. Corsino sent these home in each child's Friday folder for you to enjoy...please send these back after Spring Break so that I can put them in your child's Memory Book. Thanks a bunch!) Today was, of course, the highlight of the week! Coloring eggs and having the egg hunt was so much fun, and the children enjoyed the party, too!
Along with all of the fun, we did lots and lots of learning this week! Here are some of the things we did:
*Reading - We continued our unit on courage by reading a folktale called The Empty Pot. While reading, the children practiced the strategies they've learned this year, focusing on asking questions, making connections, summarizing, and making inferences.
*Language Arts - We learned about colons and reviewed apostrophe usage.
*Math - We continued to practice multiple digit addition and subtraction with and without regrouping, as well as multiplication and division. We also reviewed time and money concepts.
*Writing - We talked about sequence and finished our Easter Pieces.
*Science - We talked about force.
*Bible - We focused on the Easter Story.
Here are some reminders:
*3/29-4/5 - Spring Break
*4/19-22 - Elementary SAT Testing
*5/20 - Elementary Concert at Northside Baptist Church - 7:00 PM
*5/27 - Last Day of School!!!
This week I've been thinking a lot about that very first Easter, as we've been discussing it a lot here at school. One part that amazes me comes in Matthew chapter 26 verse 39, which says this "...he (Jesus) fell with his face to the ground, and prayed, 'My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.'" Jesus knew that He was about to be crucified, and he felt afraid. He prayed because He really didn't want to be nailed to the cross...but then he added "Yet not as I will, but as you will." Jesus cared more about God's will than about His own safety and comfort. He did what He had to do to save you and me...He suffered pain and agony, then died on the cross...only to raise Himself from the grave 3 days later. This Easter, we certainly have a reason to CELEBRATE!!!
Happy Easter!
In Christ's Name,
Mrs. Corsino and Mrs. Ludwig
PS After Spring Break, Mrs. Corsino's Star Student will be SAMUEL. Mrs. Ludwig's will be JAYCE.
THERE IS NO HOMEWORK OVER SPRING BREAK!!! ENJOY YOUR TIME WITH YOUR FAMILY!!! WE WILL NOT HAVE A SPELLING TEST THE WEEK WE RETURN. INSTEAD, WE WILL REVIEW AND DO SOME PRACTICE FOR THE SPELLING PORTION OF THE SAT TEST!
SECRET WORD: RESURRECTION
