Hi, everyone!!! HAPPY, HAPPY FRIDAY!!! It's been a FANTASTIC week here at NCS! As summer is right around the corner, we will be studying oceans and sea life for the remainder of the year! This week, each child began researching either an animal or a plant of interest that lives in the ocean. Mrs. Corsino's class made a fun ocean board, too! Each child made his/her animal or plant out of construction paper---it's soooooo cute! We also discussed the oil spill and the impact it could have on the ocean and on beaches, and we spent some time praying about this, too!
Here are some other things we learned:
*Reading - We continued reading in our unit "Our Country and Its People." Our selection this week was a historical fiction piece called "A Place Called Freedom." We practiced all the strategies we learned in second grade to be better readers, focusing on asking questions and author's purpose.
*Writing - We reviewed letter writing and continued writing letters to all of our friends in class. By the end of the year, each child will have a letter written by all of the other children in the class! These will be in the Memory Books for you to enjoy on the last day of school!
*Math - We did TONS of review, focusing on multiplication and division.
*Language Arts - We reviewed types of sentences, comma usage, apostrophe usage, nouns/verbs/adjectives/adverbs, and pronouns.
*Science - We studied the ocean.
*Social Studies - We studied early American life.
*Handwriting - We continued learning how to form lower case letters in cursive.
*Bible - We talked about how God wants his people to work together!
Here are some announcements/reminders:
*We are collecting "Pop Tops" to help All Children's Hospital. If you drink a soda, remember to save the top and send it in to school!
*Be sure to see the note in this week's Friday Folder about ordering lunch on line!
*Next week we will go over to the church to practice for our spring concert. The cast will go on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Everyone else will just go on Wednesday and Thursday.
*SPELLING WORDS ARE ON THE SHEET IN YOUR CHILD'S FRIDAY FOLDER...WE WILL LEARN AND GO OVER THESE WORDS, BUT WE WILL NOT ACTUALLY HAVE A TEST. THERE WILL BE NO MORE SPELLING TESTS THIS YEAR...YAAAAYYYYY!!!
*Friday, 5/14 - Last day the children have to wear uniforms!!!
*Monday, 5/17-Friday, 5/20 - Used uniform sale throughout each day in the library.
*5/20 - Elementary Concert at Northside Baptist Church - 7:00 PM - Children are supposed to dress "hillbillyish..."kind of like a character from Huck Finn or Johnny Appleseed...
*FRIDAY, 5/21 - LAST DAY FOR HOT LUNCHES!!! Please be sure to pack a lunch each day for the last week of school...except Monday when we'll be at Chuck E. Cheese!!!*Monday, 5/24 - End of the year party at Chuck E. Cheese
*5/26 - FIELD DAY - 9:30-2:30. See Coach Madasz if you'd like to volunteer to help on this fun-filled day! Boys may wear bathing suits and t-shirts, and girls may wear bathing suits under their clothes, because they may get wet!!! Be sure to apply sunscreen to your child before sending him/her to school that day!!!
*5/27 - Last Day of School!!! We will have a short awards ceremony in our classroom starting that day at 8:15. I hope you all can come! Dismissal will offficially be at 11:30 that day...but you may feel free to take your Sweetie and start summer early when the award ceremony is over, if you'd like!!!
This week during my personal devotion time I am continuing to read in the Book of Job. When I read Chapter 12, verse10 jumped out at me. It says, "In [God's] hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind." What a wonderful truth! God holds all of us in the palm of His hand...and He will never drop us! No matter what we may go through in this life...and none of us is going through what Job went through...we need to remember that God's eyes are upon us. We are in His strong hands, and in the end He will make everything right!
Have a blessed weekend!
In Christ's Name,
Mrs. Corsino and Mrs. Ludwig
PS Mrs. Corsino's Star Student next week will be BAILEY! Mrs. Ludwig's will be TAYLOR!
