NEWSLETTER - AUGUST 20TH

Dear Families,

Hi! We have had a FANTASTIC first week of second grade! We spent lots of time learning rules and routines and getting to know one another! We played some fun getting-to-know-you games which everyone really seemed to enjoy! I have fallen in love with each and every one of the children in my class already! I know it's going to be a GREAT year!

Mrs. Corsino's class will be known as the Second Grade Starfish this year! We spent some time discussing "The Starfish Story," which was sent home for you to read on the first day. We talked about ways that we can all make a difference in our world, and we reviewed Matthew 25:40, where Jesus says, "Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me." We also read a picture book called "Starboortz Fish" which taught us that God made us all special! We wrote about how we can make a difference and we made some glittery starfish, too! These are hanging up on our bulletine board! Come by and take a peek if you can!

Mrs. Ludwig's class will be known as the Second Grade Seahorses. They made some sparkly seahorses and wrote a story about a seahorse that likes to eat strawberries. FUN! They also talked about how it's important to be gentle like a seahorse, and they reviewed Phillipians 4:5, which says "Let your gentleness be evident to all."

In addition to all of this, we listened to the children read, we practiced language arts, and we did some math practice! Learning is so much fun!

Here are a few important announcements:
*Be sure to place your car tags on your dashboard if you pick your child up in car line. This helps us to move the line along much more quickly! Thanks!
*We will have our first spelling test next THURSDAY. The words are posted on this site.
When your child visits http://www.spellingcity.com/, you may type in the words for him/her before he/she takes the pre-test and plays the games.
*The other homework is in the Friday folder!
*Also remember to have you child read at least 45 minutes each week and record it on the reading calendar. These were sent home on Meet the Teacher Day. If you weren't able to come, you will find them in the orange folder that came home (for Mrs. Corsino's class).
*Elementary picture day will be on Thursday, September 2nd.
*Open House will also be on Thursday, September 2nd at 7:00 for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade.

I thank the Lord for placing your children in my class this year! I am looking forward to all of the wonderful days ahead!

In Christ's Name,
Mrs. Corsino and Mrs. Ludwig
NEXT WEEK, WE WILL BE MAKING ALL ABOUT ME BOOKLETS AND BEGINNING TO WRITE AUTOBIOGRAPHIES. COULD YOU PLEASE WRITE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION ON A PIECE OF NOTEBOOK PAPER (OR ANY KIND OF PAPER) AND RETURN IT IN THE FRIDAY FOLDER TO HELP YOUR CHILD? THANKS!
