Newsletter - November 5th

Happy November, everyone!

It's been a FANTASTIC FALL week here in second grade! We finished up our 5 paragraph essays telling what we're thankful for, and these are hanging on the bulletin board along with the terrific turkeys that the children made at home. These came out SOOOOO ADORABLE!!!

Here are just a few of the other things we learned:
*Science - We learned all about habitats this week, focusing on how habitats change.
*Social Studies - We had our classroom election on Tuesday! We started by registering to vote, and then each child had a turn to fill out a ballot and place it in the ballot box. Then, as a class, we tallied the results. The winner was COUNT VON COUNT!
*Math - We focused on multiplication and practiced using candy corn. FUN! We did some more work with fractions, too!
*Reading - We finished up our chapter book about the rainforest, focusing on the strategy SUMMARIZING. We also practiced making tracks in our reading! Ask your child to tell you what this means!
*Handwriting - We learned how to make a lower case o and c!
*Bible - We learned the story of Johsua and Jericho.
*Writing - In addition to our essays, the children spent some time with Mrs. Newland's First Grade Class. They helped the first graders learn how to revise and edit their writing, and they did a GREAT job!

Here are a few announcements/reminders:
*Remember to send in a note to let me know a date/time that you're available to conference. I am available on these days/times:
Mondays - 7:30 AM or 3:30 PM
Tuesdays - NOT AVAILABLE
Wednesdays - 3:30 PM
Thursdays - 7:30 AM
Fridays - 7:30 AM or 3:30 PM
*I will not be here next Thursday or Friday. On Thursday, I am accompanying my 9th grade son on a field trip, and on Friday, I am accompanying my 3rd grade son on a different field trip. Crazy how that worked out...
I just wanted to let you know!
*November 15-19th - Book Fair! Be sure to send your child with some money that day if he/she would like to buy some books! Mrs. Neri always says, "...The more you read, the better you read!" We will be browsing on Monday the 15th and buying FIRST THING IN THE MORNING on Wednesday the 17th.
*Tuesday, November 16th - Field Trip to Mahaffey Theater - BE SURE TO PACK A LUNCH FOR YOUR CHILD THAT DAY! We will leave school around 10:00 and return around 1:00.
*Thursday, November 18th - Thanksgiving on the Lawn
*If you haven't sent in your child's field trip money ($6.00), Thanksgiving on the Lawn money, or pillowcase, be sure to do so by Monday! Thanks a bunch!
(WOW! IT SURE IS A BUSY, BUSY TIME, ISN'T IT?!?!?!?!?!)

Recently, God has really been impressing on my heart the fact that I can trust Him. It seems that at church, during my Bible study, here at school, and during my personal devotion time, this topic just keeps coming up lately! Sometimes in my life, I can get caught up in the details of life, and sometimes these details cause me to worry. I'm so happy that God knows my heart and reminds me that, in all things, I can trust Him!

In Christ's Name,
Mrs. Corsino

Next week's Star Student will be KAIYA!!!

SECRET WORD: TURKEY
