NEWSLETTER - APRIL 8TH

The children invented their own machines.  How creative!!!

We practiced spelling words in shaving cream!  FUN!!!

Hi, everyone!!!  HAPPY FRIDAY!  It's been a super-duper week here at Northside Christian School in second grade!  The children all enjoyed International Expo Day---it's so nice that God created so many different kinds of people in his wonderful world!

Today, the children had so much fun designing their very own machines!  I am always amazed at their creativity!  We also explored simple machines on the Smartboard---there's a link at the top of this blog called "Simple Machines" if you'd like your child to show you on your computer at home!!!

Here are some other things we learned this week:
*Reading - We practiced using all of our reading strategies together this week.  Beginning next week, we'll be recording our thoughts in our Reading Strategies notebooks, so please remember to send your child to school with a new spiral notebook and a pack of skinny markers by Monday.  Thanks!  :o)
*Writing - We finished writing our Easter pieces.  These are hanging on the bulletin board!  Come by and take a peek, if you'd like!  After Easter, I'll take these down and put them in each child's Memory Book for you to keep forever and ever!!!
*Math - We've been singing lots of songs about multiplication.  This week, we were introduced to 7's, 8's, and 9's.  We also played a FUN math game on the Smart Board, too!
*Science - We discussed position and motion, forces, simple machines, and magnets.
*Social Studies - We reviewed map skills this week!
*Bible - We continued learning about the Easter story.
*Language Arts - We did lots of SAT review!

Here are some important reminders:
*NEXT WEEK IS WHEELS WEEK IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL!  On your child's PE day (Tuesday and Friday), your child may bring either a bike, a scooter, or a skateboard to school!  It must be human powered, not motorized.  Be sure to send a helmet, too!!!  FUN!
*TUESDAY, APRIL 12TH - GROUP CLASS PICTURES IN UNIFORM!!!  (The envelope is in the Friday folder!)
*SAT Testing will take place the week of April 18th through the 21st.  Each day we will do something FUN in the afternoon to celebrate all of our hard work.
MONDAY - Bring a toy from home day!  (No electronics or weapons, please!)
TUESDAY - Board game day!
WEDNESDAY - Bubble and Sidewalk chalk day!
THURSDAY - EASTER EGG HUNT!  Remember to send in a dozen plastic eggs willed with toys
and candy that your child would like!  (You may start sending these in any time!  Be sure to write your child's name on the eggs in dark permanent marker large enough to be seen easily.  Your child will find the eggs with his/her name on  them.)
*There will be NO SCHOOL ON FRIDAY, APRIL 22ND AS IT IS GOOD FRIDAY!!!

During my personal devotion time at home this week, I started reading in the book of Proverbs.  Chapter 3 verses 5-6 says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight."  Sometimes in my own life, I try to lean on myself.  I try to be perfect, and I try to figure out ways to work everything out.  But really, I have to remember that God has it all under control.  All I have to do is do my best and trust Him for the rest!!!

Have an amazing weekend!

In Christ's Name,
Jen Corsino

PS  Next week's Star Author will be MALACHI!!!
PPS  The Bible verse link is STILL not working.  Next week's verse will be:
"The angel said to the women, 'Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.  He is not here; He has risen, just as He said'"(Matthew 23:5-6a).
PPPS I'd love to do a jelly bean graphing activity next week, so if anyone would like to send in jelly beans, that would be GREAT!!!

Secret Word: jelly beans
