It's been another FANTASTIC week here in second grade!!! What a busy week it was! We spent some time practicing for the AMAZING concert on Thursdsay night, and all of our hard work paid off!!! I was so impressed with what a great job the kiddos did, and even more impressed with the night's message.Today was also great fun! We enjoyed our outdoor FIELD DAY time and our movie time, too! The children deserved it for all of their hard work reading outside of school throughout the year!!! The more you read, the better you read!!! :o) I pray that your child will continue reading throughout the summer so that he/she will start 3rd grade ready and rearing to go!!!
Here are some of the important things we learned this week:
*Bible - We have mastered Ephesians 6:10-18! The children did an EXCELLENT JOB reciting this in chapel! We also continued reading "A Life God Rewards" for kids and discussing ways that we can bless those around us!
*Reading - As always, we did LOTS of silent independent reading and practiced using reading strategies!
*Social Studies - We continued our unit "Our Country and Its People." This week we continued to read a biography about Barack Obama! We also had a flag parade in honor of Memorial Day, which is right around the corner! These projects were AMAZING! Thanks so much for helping your child learn about our country's flag!!!
*Science we learned all about different types of energy this week!
*Math - This week we did LOTS of math review and spent LOTS of time learning our 8's! We sang a song, learned to skip count, played games, and practiced on the Smart Board! Next week we will spend the ENTIRE WEEK learning our 9's. Please be sure to practice at home each night!
*Writing - We finished the friendly letters to our classmates!!! The letters written to your child will be in his/her memory book. I know that you will cherish these heartfelt notes!!!
Here are a few important reminders:
*No uniforms next week!!!
*Hot lunch WILL be served next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. If your child will be staying for aftercare on Thursday, be sure to pack a lunch!
*NEXT WEEK FOR HOMEWORK, HAVE YOUR CHILD STUDY THE 9'S TIMES TABLES AND READ, READ, READ!!!
*Tuesday, 5/24th - End of the Year Party at Chuck E. Cheese - Cost: $11.00 per child - Please send this in if you haven't yet! Thanks!!!
*Wednesday, 5/25th - CLEAN OUT OUR ROOM AND DESK DAY! Please send a big, sturdy bag and a gallon-sized ziploc bag to school that day!
*Thursday, 5/26th - LAST DAY OF SECOND GRADE!!! HALF DAY!!! Awards will be given!
***WE WERE JUST INFORMED TODAY THAT THERE WILL NOT BE AFTERCARE AVAILABLE ON THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL (THURSDAY, MAY 26TH.) ALL STUDENTS MUST BE PICKED UP IN CAR LINE AT 11:30 (or your child may leave with you when awards are over, if that's more convenient.)
Have a FANTASTIC weekend!
In Christ's Name,
Jen Corsino
